The proloque to this tale begins with the Miller being drunk and interrupting the crowd to tell his tale. The host feels that someone more reasonable should tell their tale next but the Miller insists that he tell his. The narrator then goes on to warn the audience that they should skip this tale if there are offended of the content.
In this tale Nicholas and John board together at Oxford. Nichiolas studied astrology while John was a carpenter. John has a very attractive wife whom which Nicholas wanted to sleep with. One day Nicholas and Alisoun(John's wife) begin to flirt. Nicholas grabs her to try to get with her and she threatens to cry. Nicholas then also begins to cry and this gets Alisoun to agree to sleep with him when they find a safe time. The only problem is that they Nicholas has to figure out a way to get rid of John. While all this is going on another man named Absolon is also trying to get with Alisoun but she does not like him at all. Nicholas then begins to create his plan to get Alisoun alone with him. Alisoun tells John that Nicholas is sick and should send someone to get check on him. John sends a servant and when the servant returns John feels he should go have a look for himself. While John is there with Nicholas tells him that he has had a vision from God that a flood will be coming. Nicholas tells him to hang 3 tubs from the barn roof so that they can sleep in them the night before the flood and then just cut the strings and float until the water is gone. The night before the flood finally arrives and the 3 go up into the tubs. Shorts after John begins falls asleep and begins to snore. Nicholas and Alisoun now have their chance to sleep together. They climb down from the tubs and sneak into the house. While the two are in bed together, Absolon tries to stop by the window and steal a kiss from Alisoun. When he does so Alisoun puts her butt into the window and he kisses her butt. Absolon then wants to get revenge on them for playing the prank so he goes and gets and iron and comes back for another kiss. This time Nicholas sticks his butt up to the window and when he does this Absolon burns him with the iron. Nicholas screams which wakes John up who then thinks the flood is coming. The tale is concluded when John cuts the rope to his tub and falls and breaks his arm. John then tells the story about the flood coming to the townspeople and the all laugh at him like he is crazy. I got ride of the last statement. Sorry, but it didn't make any sense.
