The Romantic Period was like a fresh page in a sketch book to the world of music. During this time the Industrial Revolution was sweeping the nation and people were retaliating with emotions and feelings. Because of this incredible outburst of human emotion the arts became controlled by such feelings during this era. Composers became less focused on rules and common forms and more curious about self expression and experimenting with different sounds, instruments, and musical patterns. Composers were also provided with wonderful opportunities to showcase their talent and knowledge about music by writing nearly impossible passages and then performing them with perfection infront of audiences. This action of "showing off" is called virtuoso. The piano was probably the most popular instrument during the Romantic Era, but this era was also a time of some great instrumental inventions including the tuba and the saxaphone, both widely used instruments today. Some of the most famous composers and musicians during the Romantic Period include but are not limited to, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. The opera and the growth of orchestras were also two trademarks of the Romantic Period. Apart from being extremely productive in the arts, the Romantic Period gave people a chance to express themselves freely yet beautifully!
